When a Deep Infection Persists
Even if a tooth has already received one or more root canal treatments from your regular dentist, a stubborn infection can persist right at the bottom of its tip (in the bone). If nothing is done surgically, the actual tooth almost always has to be removed.
- •Hidden Bacteria: Sometimes bacteria reside in tiny ramifications at the root tip that cannot be cleaned via the normal access from above (through the tooth).
- •Bone Damage: If the deep-seated infection is left untreated, it can dissolve the surrounding jawbone and even endanger the healthy neighbouring teeth.
- •Threatened Tooth Loss: A timely small surgical procedure can often protect you from losing your own tooth and needing expensive replacement.

Gentle and Precise
In root tip resection (apicoectomy), we remove only the small, diseased tip of the root to clean the infection cavity in the jaw. Because every millimetre counts here, we work with strong optical magnification (surgical loupes).
With this strong magnification, we can act particularly carefully. We clean the fine root canals at the very bottom (from the bone side) and seal them as bacterially tight as possible to prevent renewed infection.

Why an Apicoectomy with Us?
Digital Pre-Planning
Using a 3D X-ray (DVT), we see very precisely how large the infection is and where the nearest nerve runs – for plannable treatment.
Working with Magnification
Surgical loupes and fine instruments allow us to preserve the jawbone and truly remove only what is necessary.
A Valuable Alternative
A saved natural tooth is generally one of the most stable solutions for your jaw. An attempt is often very worthwhile.
Anaesthesia of Your Choice
Thanks to modern anaesthesia, the procedure is generally low in pain. In addition to local anaesthesia, we also offer treatment under general anaesthesia.
Experiences of Our Patients
The Investment in Preservation
The goal of a root tip resection is to save your own tooth. This tooth preservation is often not only biologically but also financially the far more sensible alternative long-term compared to extraction followed by an implant.
Should we employ modern supportive methods (e.g., 3D X-ray), we inform you comprehensively and transparently about the costs in advance.
Does Insurance Cover the Procedure?
The basic surgical treatment is generally covered:
- ✓The costs for the standard root tip resection are normally covered.
- ✓Special 3D imaging (DVT) for precise surgical planning is a private service.
- ✓The supportive use of autologous blood (PRF for natural wound healing) is billed according to the private fee schedule.
Step by Step to the Saved Tooth
Diagnostics & Preparation
Based on the 3D X-ray images, we assess the infection focus and advise you objectively whether the operation is medically promising in your specific case.
The Surgical Procedure
Under anaesthesia or also under specialist-supervised general anaesthesia, we gently expose the root tip through a tiny access through the gum.
Cleaning and Sealing
We remove the infected root tip, thoroughly disinfect everything, and seal the tooth canal from below with a high-quality material.
The Healing Phase
You receive precise tips for rest at home. We see you again a few days later for wound inspection at the practice and check the healing progress.
Gentle Treatment for Anxious Patients
Often the words 'dental surgery' cause great fear. The truth is, however, that the chronic or throbbing pain before a root tip resection is almost always more unpleasant than the fine procedure itself. We take ample time for you, treat in a relaxed atmosphere, and if needed, also offer the procedure under proven, specialist-supervised general anaesthesia.
Mehr zu unseren Comfort-Optionen →Our highest surgical aspiration is to preserve the patient's own natural tooth. Only when tooth preservation is no longer medically justifiable do we recommend a replacement.
