The Consequences of a Gap

Why a Missing Tooth Affects the Entire Jaw

When thinking about a missing tooth, we often first consider the gap in our smile. But even when the tooth is further back and not immediately visible, the loss usually brings unpleasant long-term consequences for the jaw.

 • Bone Recession: When the jaw at the site of the missing tooth is no longer loaded as usual during eating, the body slowly begins to resorb the bone in this area.
 • Shifting of Neighbouring Teeth: Teeth like company. When the supporting neighbour is missing, adjacent teeth often slowly tilt into the empty gap.
 • Incorrect Loading: People often unconsciously begin to spare the gap when chewing. This can lead to misalignment and persistent tension in the jaw joint.

An implant doesn't just close the gap visually. It acts as an artificial root, channelling chewing forces back into the bone and thereby protecting it from resorption.

The Treatment Approach

What Exactly Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are slender, biocompatible screws made of titanium or ceramic. They are placed directly at the toothless site as a 'replacement root' firmly into the jawbone by our surgical team. On this strong foundation, we later anchor your custom dental prosthetics, whether a single crown, a bridge, or support for a denture.

The great advantage compared to traditional bridges: we do not need to grind down adjacent healthy teeth for anchorage.

A Benefit for Everyday Life

The costs for this treatment are composed of several components: the diagnostic effort (3D X-ray), the implant screw, the actual surgical procedure, and the handcrafted production of the visible dental prosthetics in the laboratory.

Following the evaluations, we prepare a transparent treatment and cost plan for you in advance.

Financing

Transparency in Financial Costs

To provide a reliable cost estimate for an implant, we need to examine your jaw thoroughly.

 • Every treatment begins with an open and objective conversation at our clinic.
 • Statutory health insurers in Germany do not contribute to the implant itself, but do provide a fixed subsidy towards the crown (the visible tooth).
 • Upon request, you can conveniently settle your invoice in comfortable instalments through our billing service partner.
Your Implant Treatment

The Standard Process

01

Consultation & Planning

We review a 3D X-ray (DVT/CBCT) of your jaw, check the bone width, and plan all details of the upcoming treatment with you at your pace.

02

Placement

Under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, the fine artificial tooth root is gently placed into the jawbone. It is then allowed to heal undisturbed.

03

Impression

After three to six months, the implant has usually firmly integrated with your bone. We then gently take an impression of the site for our dental technicians.

04

The Finished Tooth

Our technicians have crafted your individual implant crown from ceramic. We finally attach this securely to the artificial root.

Consideration for Sensitive Patients

We know that the word 'implant' causes a certain apprehension in many people. That is why our focus is on particularly empathetic consultation. In addition to the generally low-discomfort treatment under local anaesthesia, we work closely with an experienced anaesthesia team. This means we can carry out procedures under specialist-supervised general anaesthesia at any time upon request, while you can completely switch off.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

The screws made of titanium or ceramic technically have no expiry date. However, thorough oral hygiene and not smoking are essential for long-term stability, in order to avoid inflammation around the implant.
From a dental track record perspective, titanium is the 'gold standard' due to decades of extensive clinical studies. It integrates very well and is extremely durable. For patients who desire a completely metal-free dentition (whether due to concerns about intolerance or holistic conviction), white zirconia ceramic is now a reliable alternative.
The surgical procedure itself is generally low in discomfort thanks to strong local anaesthesia. Upon request, we plan general anaesthesia. Interestingly, the jawbone itself has very few nerves. In the days after placement, you usually experience wound pain similar to after a tooth extraction, which can be well controlled with painkillers and cooling.
Most patients recover quickly. They are often fully functional again the next day or the day after. Depending on whether additional bone grafting was necessary, we provide a sick note for the first one to two days to support the body's healing.
Absolutely. No patient has to walk around completely toothless or live for months with a visible gap at the front. While the actual implant integrates into the bone hidden in the jaw, we provide you with an aesthetically pleasing temporary solution for the interim period.
