Detecting Caries Before a Cavity Forms
Caries does not begin with a visible cavity, but with a gradual demineralisation of the tooth enamel. At this early stage, the surface is still intact, but microscopically small pores form beneath the surface. This is precisely where the ICON method targets – before a drill would need to be used.
- •Early Caries Between Teeth: Spaces between teeth are hard to reach during daily care. If early demineralisation is detected on the X-ray, ICON can stop the progression.
- •White Spots After Braces: White, chalky spots on front teeth frequently occur after the removal of fixed braces, as plaque could accumulate around the brackets.
- •Fluorosis and Enamel Anomalies: Mild to moderate fluorosis or structural changes such as molar-incisor hypomineralisation (MIH, 'chalky teeth') can also be treated with the infiltration method.
The earlier demineralisation is detected, the more gently and substance-preservingly the treatment can be carried out.
How the ICON Method Works
Instead of waiting until a cavity forms and must be removed with a drill, infiltration intervenes earlier: a specially developed, low-viscosity resin (infiltrant) is applied to the affected tooth. Through capillary forces, it penetrates deeply into the pore system of the damaged enamel, fills the cavities, and seals the tooth from within.
The further penetration of caries-causing acids is thereby blocked and the progression of caries stopped. Since the ICON resin refracts light similarly to healthy tooth enamel, treated areas also visually adapt to the healthy tooth substance – bothersome white spots can in many cases be significantly reduced or become invisible.

Gentle Therapy with Clear Benefits
No Drilling, No Anaesthesia
Since no healthy tooth substance needs to be removed, the treatment is generally low in discomfort and requires no local anaesthesia.
Maximum Tooth Preservation
Unlike conventional fillings, your natural tooth substance is largely preserved with infiltration – nothing is drilled away.
Time-Saving Treatment
The treatment can usually be completed in a single session of approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
Natural Aesthetic Result
The natural tooth colour can usually be restored, which ensures a harmonious appearance particularly in the visible front tooth area.
Experiences of Our Patients
An Investment in Tooth Preservation
ICON caries infiltration is a private service and is not covered by statutory health insurers. Private health insurers generally reimburse the costs. Measured against the long-term benefit – the preservation of healthy tooth substance and avoidance of more extensive follow-up treatments – infiltration is a sensible investment.
You receive a fully transparent treatment and cost plan in advance, so you can decide at your leisure.
What Does ICON Treatment Cost?
The costs depend on the number of teeth to be treated and the individual effort. We are happy to advise you in a personal conversation.
- ✓Caries infiltration is a private service billed according to GOZ.

In Five Steps to the Sealed Tooth
Cleaning and Preparation
The affected tooth is thoroughly cleaned. A medical rubber dam (cofferdam) is then applied to keep the treatment area absolutely dry – an important prerequisite for treatment success.
Pre-Treatment (Etching)
A special gel is applied to open the outer, compacted layer of the lesion and clear access to the pores.
Drying
The tooth is carefully dried with an alcoholic solution so that the infiltrant can subsequently penetrate optimally into the pores.
Infiltration
The low-viscosity resin is applied and penetrates deeply into the porous areas of the tooth enamel through capillary forces.
Curing and Polishing
The resin is cured with a special dental lamp. Finally, the tooth surface is polished to a high gloss.
Relaxed Treatment – Without a Drill
ICON caries infiltration is particularly good news for patients with dental anxiety: since neither drilling nor anaesthesia is required, the treatment proceeds calmly and in a relaxed manner. Should you nevertheless feel uncomfortable, we are happy to take whatever time you need.
